For thirty years China was the world's largest car market without exporting any of its own product. That changed in 2022. BYD, MG (revived by SAIC), NIO, Zeekr, XPeng and Aiways have all entered Europe in the last three years, all pure-EV or PHEV, all priced 15–30% below European equivalents. The Chinese model is vertical integration (BYD builds its own batteries, motors, semiconductors) and software-first vehicle architecture. Catalog presence in Europe is still small, but the trajectory is steep.
